A KILWINNING schoolboy has been given the all clear – almost a year to the day he was diagnosed with five brain tumours.

Wee Warrior Kieran Crichton is continuing to defy the odds after his latest MRI scan showed he is still winning his battle against Medulloblastoma.

In October, we revealed that 13-year-old Kieran had been given the all clear from Medulloblastoma which was discovered in February last year after mum Senga, 49, noticed he was rapidly losing weight and pushed doctors for tests.

Kieran, who also has autism, underwent brain surgery at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children on March 2, to remove the biggest tumour.

That operation which left him with posterior fossa syndrome, which has affected his ability to speak and walk.

But Senga says since he has been given the all clear, the Kilwinning Academy pupil has gone from strength to strength, regaining his speech and has even started learning to walk again.

Senga, of Blacklands, says the last year has been “a challenge.

She said: “It’s been a quick year and a challenging one always trust your gut and as I always say a mother knows her children more than anyone else.”

Kieran has captured the heart of the Kilwinning community with his strength and determination. At Christmas he was chosen as the town’s local hero to switch on the Christmas Lights.

The event raised hundreds of pounds and Kieran was asked to present a cheque to the Schiehallion Ward at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

The ward was named after the Schiehallion mountain - to mirror the journey for children with cancer.
