THE Ardrossan to Brodick ferry is still the busiest route in the country.

Ferry operator Calmac’s figures for 2018 were released last week with a total of 840,993 passengers making the journey between the mainland and Scotland in Miniature.

Although this was a drop of less than one per cent, the route is still the busiest in Scotland.

The other route over 700,000 is also in North Ayrshire with the Largs to Cumbrae Slip taking 793,206 between the two ports.

But there are more journeys per day due to the length of the trip between Largs and the island.

Total passengers carried for the year were recorded as 5,253,766, up from 5,238,164 on the previous 12 months.

That represented a 0.3 per cent overall increase.

Vehicle traffic also increased from 1,429,935 to 1,428,346 a rise of 0.11 per cent.
