A MAN is set to be deported after an immigration raid on a takeaway in Ardrossan.

Last Thursday, Immigration Enforcement officers swooped on the Curry King in the town’s Central Avenue after they received intelligence that a worker there had overstayed his visa to work in the UK.

Now the takeaway could face a fine of up to £20,000 unless they can prove the proper checks were carried out.

Police said that they were aware of the raid but were not required to attend to assist border control officers.

A spokeswoman for the Home Office said: “Acting on intelligence, Immigration Enforcement officers visited Curry King, Central Avenue, Ardrossan on Thursday, March 14 at about 7pm.

“Immigration checks on staff revealed a 26-year-old Indian man had had overstayed his visa and was detained while steps are taken to remove him from the UK.

“A Civil Penalty Referral notice in relation to the illegal worker was served on the business. The notice warns that a financial penalty of up to £20,000 will be imposed unless the employer can demonstrate that appropriate right-to-work document checks were carried out, such as seeing a passport or Home Office document confirming permission to work.”
