A skate ramp has already proved popular with Kincaidston kids after a year long wait.

Ayr East Cllr Chris Cullen said he was ecstatic when the ramp was finally installed after being requested by the community in consultation.

The SNP councillor also welcoming further improvement works to the playpark area kicking off.

Cllr Chris Cullen said: “I was pretty much ecstatic when it went up. As soon as the contractors had left it was ready to go and the kids were on it playing.

"Pretty much immediately after it had finally gone in it was in use – I don’t know where the kids came from but they just appeared.

“It’s been roughly a year from the time the ramp got checked over for safety. By the time that was done we were hit with weather issues, when work was scheduled the weather beat them each time. “Between the community council, community group and community centre, we’ve been dealing with the lack of facilities at the playpark.

“The council has a policy of no fences around playparks to leave them open and welcome so there was issues with dogs running loose, where the ramp is now situated was the main entry point for dogs so I proposed it as a barrier without actually putting in a fence.

“We went through the stock and we managed to find the ramp which was being taken out of another park and I called first dibs and got it installed as a break point between the open fields and the park itself – and so far its been working great.

“We had spoken initially with the community council and the community groups - as we can’t just plant it here without the community wanting it. Kincaiston Community Centre put out a newsletter so I arranged for the consultation to be put through that. We got over 300 responses back, quite good for an area like that.
