A NEW Ardrossan group is looking to channel the energy of the campaign to save the ferry to bring life back to the town.

The proposed Ardrossan Community Development Trust held a public meeting at the weekend where locals could hear about plans and sign up to get the ball rolling.

Christine Powell, one of the members of the Trust’s steering group, pictured above centre, spoke about how it is imperative that people who live, work or volunteer in the town get involved.

Christine told the Herald: “We need to have people signing up as members. There are copies of the membership forms in the Our Place Office in Glasgow Street and the Whitlees Centre.

“We need around 1,400 people to sign up and we are looking to have another meeting in 10-15 days so we need as many people signed up as soon as possible.”

88 people attended their first public meeting at the Civic Centre and they heard from Our Place, what the Trust hopes to bring to the town and almost half signed up there and then.

There is also a junior membership option where 12-15-year-olds can get involved.

The trust will look at regeneration, helping groups and individuals in the town through experience and advice.

Christine added: “The people got behind the ferry campaign in Ardrossan and we need the same uptake. We need people who live, work or volunteer in the town to get involved.”
