Speakers from West Kilbride and beyond will be in the spotlight at the latest in a series of spoken word events.

MicroTalks sees speakers talk for six minutes on different subjects.

The free event takes place at the Barony on Saturday, March 30 from 4 to 5pm.

The events are organised by Creative Works, who support a range of projects in the village including MicroFilmakers.

The latest event includes a screening of a short-film from young aspiring filmmaker Max McGregor.

Max, a pupil at Largs Academy, is part of the MicoFilmakers project.

The 14-year-old will screen his latest Western-themed project after a successful debut last year.

West Kilbride’s Jeni Lennox is one of the Creative Works volunteers who run the events.

She said: “MicroTalks is an amazing community project which celebrates the fantastic people who live in West Kilbride.

“We also welcome visiting speakers so the range of topics and subjects covered really is limitless.

“The format for the talks means that the slides change every 20 seconds and part of the fun of MicroTalks is that the speakers have to keep up.

“Speakers are only allowed 20 slides, so each talk is just over six minutes long.

“Max showed his first film at a MicroTalks last year and it went down a storm, so we can’t wait to see the follow-up.”

Jeni is also among the speakers for this week’s event with a talk on the secrets and stories behind the designs of Ulster bank notes.

She will be joined by another West Kilbride local Linda Semple whose subject is a short history of women crime writers.

Painter Clive Sutton will be talking about art appreciation.

Visiting speaker Juliette Henon works at the British Standards Institute and completes the line-up with a talk on textiles.
