STAFF and service users at the Salvation Army’s George Steven Centre in Kilbirnie donned their best odd socks for World Down Syndrome Day last week.
They were taking part in the worldwide ‘lots of socks’ campaign, which got its name because chromosomes are shaped “like socks” and people with Down Syndrome have an extra chromosome.
Joanne Graham, centre manager, said: “The aim of the day was to have fun while celebrating difference and diversity.”
The George Steven Centre provides a safe and secure environment for adults with learning disabilities to learn new skills and explore relationships within a structured programme. It is a specialised service in conjunction with North Ayrshire Council.
