A MAN was taken to hospital after suffering a fractured eye socket after a serious assault by two men in Kilwinning.

At around 8.10pm on Sunday night, a 23-year-old man was walking to the shops at West Doura Court via a lane in Whitehirst Park, Kilwinning, when he was approached by two men who verbally abused him, then punched him to the ground before making off.

The injured man sustained a fractured eye socket as a result of the attack and was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where he was treated and has since been discharged.

The suspects, both white, in their 30s/40s and had local accents, are described as follows:

6ft, medium build, shaved brown hair, wearing a blue top.

5ft 5inches, slim/gaunt build, wearing a black zipper jacket, blue jeans and black Nike trainers.

Detective Constable Grant Currie from Saltcoats CID said: “The injured man was heading to a local store when he was shouted at by the two men who then, for whatever reason, punched him to the ground."

“We have been reviewing CCTV in the area and have seen a number of people coming and going from the shop, so would appeal to them to call police as they may have seen the men hanging about the area or maybe running off afterwards."
