Amateur bakers rose to the occasion at Saltcoats Community Council’s second bake-off.

The event at the Argyle Community Centre saw local bakers showcase their best cakes, while members of the public enjoyed a coffee morning.

Entries were judged by retired master baker Billy Colclough and Stephen and Rona McAllister of The Kandy Bar.

George Lafferty, vice-chairperson of SCC, said: “It was even more popular than last year and some of the cakes were absolutely spectacular.”

SCC wished to thank the following: the judges, entrants, all who attended the coffee morning, Saltcoats Costa Coffee, Carmen Lingerie, Stalks and Stems, Studio Cobbler, Melbourne Café, The Dressing Room, Tickety Boo, Art n Joy.

The chosen charity to benefit from the bucket donations at the coffee morning, and the amount raised, will be revealed by SCC soon.

The adult winners on the day were: apple pie – 1st Ian Evans, 2nd Natalie Kent. Muffins – 1st Heather McCubbin, 2nd Annie Hallam. Victoria sandwich – 1st Natalie Kent, 2nd Annie Hallam, 3rd Sharon Smith. The 12-18 age group winners were: brownies and scones – 1st Eva Cain, 2nd Rebecca Baird. The age 11 and under winners were: Smarties cookies – 1st Macie Stewart, 2nd Emma Kenmore, 3rd Noah Young.
