PLANS have been lodged with North Ayrshire Council for a new hot food takeaway in Kilbirnie.

The application was submitted to the council’s planners last week for a proposed new takeaway at 53 Main Street.

The unit has been vacant for a considerable period of time and planners will now consider if they application will be accepted and work if work in the building can move forward.

At this stage, it is not clear what kind of cuisine the takeaway would serve but the planned opening hours are from 10am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 10am to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

The application also includes plans to erect a flue which will extract out to the rear of the building.

In the supporting statement, the company behind the plans said: “Given the location in this attractive building at the centre of the town the possibility of it remaining empty is not appealing as an empty unit can, in the west of Scotland climate, become a disamenity in a short period of time.”
