A young man has been seriously injured after he was violently attacked by thugs in Ardrossan.

Police are looking for information into the serious assault, which took place near to Dockers Gardens at around 11.15pm on Sunday, May 5.

The 23-year-old was attacked by a large group of young males and females, during which he sustained serious injuries which required hospital treatment.

Those responsible then made off and passing members of the public provided assistance to the victim until police arrived.

Detective Constable Andy Dunlop from Saltcoats CID said: “This was a violent attack which left the victim with serious injuries and extensive enquiries are underway to trace the people responsible.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the Dockers Gardens and Princes Street area on Sunday night around 11.15pm and witnessed a disturbance or anything suspicious to please get in touch.

An eyewitness told the Herald: “My daughter heard a lot of screaming outside just before midnight. She looked out her window and saw what looked like a small group of teens and thought they were drunk. She never thought anymore of it until the police turned up.”
