THE North Ayrshire Bowling league kicked off for the 2019 season on Friday night but was left in a sense of shock with the sad passing of Kilwinning BC's David Scaife.

The District 27 secretary for Bowls Scotland and secretary for Kilwinning BC suddenly passed away on Friday leading to tributes from across the bowling fraternity.

His beloved club started off their campaign with a win against Ardeer Rec and our photographer Charlie Gilmour was on hand to capture the best of the action. They were one of two sides who picked up a bonus point win with a 36 shot victory over the Stevenston club by 99 shots to 63 to win 5-0.

The other big winners on the night were Kilbirnie BC who romped to a 63 shot win over Largs BC by virtue of a 110-47 victory to sit top of the table.

There was just one away win on the night with Dalry and Glengarnock managing a narrow win over Fairlie BC. This one went to the wire with the visitors getting over the line by 76 shots to 67.

West Kilbride, who are on the hunt for a fourth league title in a row, got off to a winning start over Largs Halkshill by just ten shots in an 85-75 win. These two results see the losing teams pick up a bonus point for getting within ten shots.

Ardeer BC were the other winners on the night over Saltcoats in the bottom end of Stevenston by 71 shots to 58 to win 4-0.

The match between Ardrossan BC and Skelmorlie BC was postponed until further notice due to player issues for Skelmorlie.
