THE town of Ardrossan was in mourning this weekend following the sad passing of Sam Morrison.

Sam dedicated much of his life to Ardrossan Winton Rover in his beloved town and club chairman Pat Breen paid tribute to his great friend and spoke about how he was always the man to go to.

Pat said: "He was a stalwart of Ardrossan Winton Rovers and he was respected within the club for over 50 years. If it wasn't for Sam, along with Willie Kean and John Sheehan, the club wouldn't be where it is today.

"It was really upsetting for everyone at the club to hear about his passing, many of the club volunteers worked their whole life with Sam."

Sam was a proud family man and was an important member of the congregation of Park Parish Chuch in Ardrossan too.

Pat added: "Sam was all about his family, his church and Ardrossan Winton Rovers, sometimes you wondered which came first.

"Even after his retirement from the club, we still ran important club matters past him. We didn't do things without Sam and he will be sadly missed.

"There are a lot of legends in football but Sam was a true legend of Ardrossan Winton Rovers."

Winton Rovers added: "Our deepest condolences are given to Janette, his wife, Jane, Billy, Lynne and Fiona, his children, and the extended Morrison family."

RIP Sam.
