A TEAM of young entrepreneurs from St Matthew’s Academy picked up a top award last week in the capital.

Team Pure and their personalised and reusable water bottles attended the Scottish finals at the Festival of Youth Enterprise Championships in Edinburgh on June 5 where they picked up the Peroosh People’s Choice Award.

Team Pure, which stands for ‘Protecting UR Environment’ consists of 20 people. Their product is a reusable, personalised water bottle, emblazoned with the logo of the school that they believe is helping to achieve their mission which is to reduce the amount of plastic waste produced as a school.

Lynn Burns, who worked alongside Team Pure said: “I have been volunteering as business adviser at St Matthew’s with the Young Enterprise Scotland programme since 2011 and the talents and standards of the teams continue to impress year on year.

“It is a joy to work alongside such enthusiastic, enterprising young people.

“Team Pure had a mission to reduce single use plastic waste using a reusable water bottle which also reduced costs to pupils day to day.

“Pure are an imaginative, committed and inclusive company and I am delighted that they are the Peroosh People’s Choice Award winners.”

The Festival of Youth Enterprise Championship 2019 was won by a team from Fortrose Academy whose entrepreneurial Venture impressed the judges by their work to develop and produce a range of products to use with people living with dementia.

Geoff Leask, Chief Executive of Young Enterprise Scotland, said: “I would like to thank all our sponsors and supporters who have generously backed us not just tonight but throughout the last year.”
