A SHOP worker has been given a community payback order after he admitted stealing more than £12,000 from his employers.
Robert Smith pleaded guilty in December to a single charge of embezzling funds from Stevenston Convenience Store in Townhead Street.
The 22-year-old was an employee at the store, which is also home to the town’s Post Office, between August and October 2020 when the offence occurred.
On various occasions during the two-month period, the Ardrossan man embezzled a total of £12,038.50 from the store.
At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week, Smith, of Millglen Road, was sentenced to a community payback order and must complete 180 hours of unpaid work within 12 months.
