POLICE in Ayrshire have issued a warning about 'organised gangs' following a report of a theft from a field in West Kilbride.

Officers have claimed that gangs often "tour the countryside for theft opportunities". They added that "popular items to steal" include quadbikes and trailers.

And after making the public aware of this warning - they appealed for information on one such alleged incident which took place in West Kilbride last month.

Officers say that sometime between 4.30pm on Tuesday, September 26 and 4pm the following day, a trailer was stolen from a field in the village.

The item was described as a four feet by five feet Swaledale trailer which had off-road tires.

This was taken from a field near Kilruskin Toll, the slip road towards the village from the A78 Irvine Road shortly before Hunterston Roundabout.

Now, police are looking for public assistance to help with their investigation into the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "If you were in the area at the time, witnessed suspicious activity or caught pertinent footage on a dashcam, please call 101 - reference CR/0209594/23."
