Plans have been lodged to carry out roadworks on a major road from Dalry to Saltcoats.

The engineering services department at North Ayrshire Council (NAC) are seeking permission to realign the B714 between Girthill farm near Saltcoats and Kilwinning Road in Dalry.

The proposed works would include localised realignment at Muirlaught bungalow and Meiklelaught in Saltcoats.

There is no indication with the plans of whether the realignment work would force the closure of the road.

The proposal, which is awaiting a decision from NAC planning officials, was lodged on February 7.

No supporting documents are available with the notice of application on the NAC website.

We previously told UK Government's Minister for Scotland John Lamont took a look at the B714 upgrade plans during a visit in August last year.

The upgrade plans, which includes the creation of a potential new link between the road and the A737 to the south of Dalry, will see the road width of increased to 9.3m along the full length of the route and will comprise of two 3.65m lanes with a 1m strip at either side.

A three-metre wide 'active travel route', to allow cyclists and pedestrians to use the road safely, is also part of the plans.

The upgrade project aims to reduce the volume of traffic travelling through Kilwinning on the A737 and A738, a route which passes by four schools, as well as cutting pollution, congestion and the potential for accidents.
