PUPILS from an Ardrossan primary school have caused mass hilarity thanks to their brilliant World Book Day costumes.
Local kids Aria, Alea-Jay and Violet headed into class at Stanley Primary on March 7 dressed up in outfits inspired by the now infamous 'Wonka experience' in Glasgow.
The event hit the headlines worldwide after children were left in tears when they went to the Box Hub Warehouse in the city - and discovered that dazzling adverts for the event promised much more than it delivered.
The “immersive” experience was branded a failure by angry families who had forked out around £35 for tickets.
Organisers House of Illuminati apologised after families were met by a sparsely decorated room including few plastic props, a little bouncy castle, and small backdrops pinned to walls.
Also part of the experience were some rather memorable characters played by actors - many of whom say they were never paid for their roles.
Amongst the characters were red-headed Willy Wonka, the 'sad Oompa Loompa' and completely fabricated character 'the unknown'.
It was this trio which inspired the costumes of the three Stanley kids.
Amyleigh Cavanagh, mum to Aria and Alea-Jay (AJ), who are best friends to Violet, shared the hilarious image on Thursday morning.
She told the Herald: “I feel like it has all blown up – it was only a light-hearted bit of fun.”
The costumes were not created from a first hand experience after Amyleigh just missed out on purchasing tickets to the event.
She commented: “I did see it advertised on Faccebook. It came up because I had bought tickets from Facebook ads before.
“Every time an event like that comes up, it does tend to advertise it to me.
“It popped up twice and the first time I saw it I tagged my friend in it, but they told me the girls had a [dance] competition that weekend.
“I was definitely considering it. Iit looked brilliant. Obviously we know now it wasn’t.
“Aria has only just turned eight so she would have loved something like that, but luckily enough we didn’t buy tickets.”
Though the girls were still desperate to dress up as the characters, and produced fantastic results with Aria as the Oompa Loompa, Alea-Jay as Willie Wonka and Violet as 'the unknown'.

Amyleigh continued: “It was so funny because AJ was on the hunt all weekend for a ginger beard – we must have gone to every Hallowe’en shop known to find it, because she wanted to be that guy.
“It was worth it anyway – they were all buzzing.
“A couple of the girls' teachers have commented saying it made them laugh – I’m glad they appreciate the banter.”
But not everyone took the costumes in jest after the images foundtheir way into a Facebook group created for those who'd attended the Glasgow event.
Amyleigh added: “One person said I turned their grief into a laughing stock – I don’t know how going to an event like that is grief!”
