Local businessman Billy Hunter was announced as the Chieftain for the 2014 Ardrossan Highland Games. Billy, the proprietor of electrical contractors, Cunninghame Technical Services, is pictured with Games chairman Alistair Arnott.

Dalry Primary enjoyed an action packed health week in March 2014, when pupils got to try their hand at rock climbing, cooking canapes and sports.

Ardrossan’s star of the Channel 4 reality TV show ‘Four In A Bed’ said he hoped his 2014 appearance would help him sell his business. Retired copper Hugh Begbie and his wife Moira came joint second in the show that pitched four B&B owners against each other to see who offers best value. Hugh said: “I wasn’t bothered either way whether we won or not. I’m hoping it will help to sell this place which is now on the market. You can’t get much better publicity than a week on Channel 4.”

The Arran Mountain rescue Team were called out to assist a female walker who had slipped on a patch of ice coming down off Goatfell in March 2014. Three team members set off in the Argocat all-terrain vehicle and quickly located the casualty and assessed her injuries. A second team made their way up to the casualty on foot and carried the kit needed to evacuate her to safety.

A new housing development in Ardrossan for adults with special needs was officially opened in March 2014. Castlecraigs Court was the result of three years of partnership working between North Ayrshire Council, NHS Ayrshire and Arran and voluntary service, providers, Cornerstone.

Abbey Primary School stood up to bullies in 2014 as they held their own anti-bullying march. Pupils at the Kilwinning school, along with teachers and parents, marched from the school playground with banners to McGavin Park in order to get their message across.
