Senior carer Sharon Kane has celebrated 20 years of service supporting adults with learning disabilities at Kilbirnie's Moorpark Place.
Her career at the Active Care Group-owned support service started in far from conventional circumstances when the service was just a shell and situated at a work site.
She spent her first six weeks in a caravan with a resident and despite her initial doubts, Sharon’s commitment was strengthened by a simple question from her mother: “Who’s going to look after that girl if you don’t go back?”
Over the years, Sharon has seen many positive changes happen as Moorpark Place has been transformed into a haven for many individuals with learning disabilities.
She has also been able to participate in moments of triumph, progress, and growth.
Sharon said: “It’s those moments of joy and connection that I most enjoy about working at Moorpark Place. I have a great team which makes my job that bit better.”
A Moorpark Place spokesperson said: "Today, Sharon’s steadfast dedication remains as she continues to create happy memories and improve the quality of individuals’ lives each day through fun and personalised activities, just like she did for the girl that she helped back in 2004.
From their humble beginnings to their most recent ‘Good’ rating by the Care Inspectorate, Moorpark Place has remained at the forefront of innovation and excellence in providing therapeutic care to adults with learning disabilities.
Sharon’s favourite quote is: “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”
Her story serves as a poignant reminder of the invaluable role that caregivers play in fostering acceptance, understanding, and inclusivity.
A spokesperson added: "Moorpark Place continues to inspire hope and optimism, embodying the transformative power of compassionate care and unwavering dedication to breaking down barriers and helping to create a society that works for people with learning disabilities where they can live with dignity, respect and purpose."
