CCTV cameras have captured the moment a brazen thief walking into a Largs gift shop and stealing a £120 bottle of whisky, according to footage shared with the News.

Toni Dawson, the owner of Geraldo's on Main Street, says the "outrageous" incident happened on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 9.

She is now hoping that the footage, which has been passed on to police, can help identify the culprit - and says she hopes readers of the News might also be able to help track him down.

Toni said: "I think it is outrageous. The incident infuriated me.

"We have a number of CCTV cameras placed around the shop and we have fortunately managed to get some good footage which we have passed on to the police, and we hope that News readers help can help identify the culprit.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:

"I drove around the town to look for him.

"It is worrying to see, as retail theft appears to be at an all time high according to trade and industry publications, but I can't believe how brazen this individual was, to just walk into the shop and grab what they can and steal the bottle of whisky in front of other customers.

"My concern is that is happening so frequently, It is so disheartening and so frequently now and it is sickening for the staff."

Toni's friend and fellow business owner, Linda Hill, who runs LAH Travel in West Kilbride, also shared the footage.

She said: "Does anyone know this man? He is a total low life, causally walking into my friend's business and stole multiple items including a bottle of whisky worth £120.

"Someone must know his face.

"Running a business is hard work and it's not OK for people to steal. You horrible little man."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were made aware of a theft from a premises on Main Street, Largs, around 2pm on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
