Drivers on one of the main routes to and from North Ayrshire will face a month of 24-hour traffic lights while essential bridge repairs are carried out.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are undertaking essential bridge repairs on the A737 at Risk Brae, south of Howwood, from Wednesday, May 1 to Friday, May 31.

And it comes at the same time as the road faces overnight closures for a week.

Work on the A737 between the Manrahead roundabout and Glebe Road in Beith began yesterday (Sunday) to allow for essential resurfacing work to take place.

Diversions will be in place from 9pm to 6am, with the exception on Wednesday, May 1.

The Risk Brae work was previously postponed in 2022.

Traffic management will be in place on a 24-hour basis.

Amey says the work will benefit around 21,500 vehicles using this route each day by maintaining the safety of the structure and ensuring that the route remains serviceable, as well as reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The work will be carried out using two-way 24-hour temporary traffic lights, while Belltrees Road, at the work location, will be open for local access only.

Amey says short duration full closures of the whole of the A737 between Beith Road and the Roadhead roundabout will be needed at the start and end of the works to install and remove the traffic management. Local diversions will be in place.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Amey also says that all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
