Police were believed to be carrying out a manhunt at Ardrossan's historic Castle Hill this evening (Wednesday, May 15).
Police vehicles, including vans and cars with sirens blaring, headed up the town's Glasgow Street at around 7pm, with officers combing the area for a suspect.
Officers were seen at every entrance to the site, with some spotted by passers-by emerging from the ancient castle itself following a search of the area.
The Herald believes they were looking for a man clad in T-shirt and shorts who may be hiding in the area.
No details have yet been released about the nature of the incident, but Police Scotland have been contacted for comment about the operation.
