WEATHER caused just over 5 per cent of sailings to be cancelled between Ardrossan and Brodick, figures released from CalMac have revealed.

Of the 4,708 scheduled sailings for the year, just 253 were cancelled due to weather which equates to just over 5 per cent.

Many of those in favour of moving the mainland port to Troon are supportive due to claims that the ferry will be more punctual but there is little evidence to support this.

A further 62 sailings, or 1.32 per cent, were cancelled due to technical issues and 21 sailings were cancelled for other reasons, mainly industrial action.

Reliability of the route is 99.21 per cent and punctuality is 99.28 per cent, this is due to the fact that weather-related cancellations or delays are not included, which is standard practice for the industry to ensure that performance is not prioritised over safety.
