A MAN claimed he had taken heroin to help his eczema, a court heard this week.

And when police tried to detain him for behaving strangely, he caused a rammy in front of shocked tourists, accusing them of ‘kidnapping’ him.

Arran McGloin, of Corrie Terrace, Corrie appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.

The court heard the 21-year-old had been seen by police officers at Claddach car park, Brodick on July 16.

McGloin was said to have been acting strangely and when he was approached by the officers, he said: “I’m not doing anything wrong and I’ve got nothing illegal on me.” He was then asked for his name and address to which he told them to ‘Go away’. The officers said that his pupils were dilated and that his behaviour was erratic as they knew him.

He was detained and he shouted, in front of holidaymakers and in front of a playpark, to the police: “B******s. Corrupt b******s. You’re kidnapping me.” McGloin’s bag was then searched at Lamlash Police Office and various drug paraphernalia was found, including books on heroin.

A search warrant was issued for McGloin’s home and upon searching the house, the police officers found syringes with traces of brown powder and wraps containing brown powder which was found to be diamorphine.

Mr Holliman, defending, said that there was an unusual background to the charge in that his client suffered with acute asthma and eczema and had been on a “wrath” of medication over a number of years. The meds were said to not be working and his father said that he was prescribed methodone.

He said it was a foolish thing to do and that his client has no ongoing problem with heroin and that this was confirmed by his medical staff.

Sheriff McDonald said: “I’ve listened carefully to this and I would say go to with the health professionals and not your own views.” McGloin was fined a total of £200 for behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and having the drugs at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.
