A DALRY teen will face sentencing next month after he admitted an assault on a man in the town where he punched and kicked him on the head.  David Andrew Johnson, 19, of Garnock Street, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week where the court heard that a man and a woman were walking in New Street on December 27 last year when they were approached by five males, one of these being Johnson,  CCTV footage showed other parties becoming involved with the males and the woman then became involved – but the man pulled her away.  The group then followed the pair and the man was attacked by Johnson who repeatedly punched him on the head, causing him to fall to the ground, before continuing to punch him on the ground.

The court heard that it all happened fairly quickly and was seen on CCTV before the man was brought to his feet but Johnson began punching him again and he fell to the ground again before he was kicked on the head.

Police were contacted by the CCTV operators and it came to light that the man had to get three stitches before enquiries were made and Johnson arrested.  Before calling for reports, Sheriff Iona McDonald said sternly: “I’ve no idea why you thought it appropriate to punch someone to the ground, then when they are on the ground, kick them on the head.

"You’re lucky that they didn’t die.”  Sentence was deferred until August 25 when Johnson will find out his fate.
