POLICE were called to Beith after a laser beam was aimed at the cockpit of a British Airways flight approaching Glasgow Airport.

The pilot of the aircraft pinpointed the source of the suspected laser pen to around Beith Primary School in the early hours of July 27.

Police went to the site but they found no trace of anyone.

Possession of laser pens is not illegal but it is an offence to aim it at people.

A spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Authority said. “Glasgow is in the top five worst affected passenger airports in the UK.

“The number of incidents of laser pens being aimed at aircraft has stabilised but there are still far too many.

“Anybody who sees laser devices being used in this way should contact police.” British Airways was unavailable for comment as we went to print.
