A THIRTEEN year old Ayrshire boy is heading for Glasgow’s Barrowlands and Liverpool’s legendary Cavern with his band Dogtooth.

John Hewitson, from Kilbirnie, is singer and guitarist with the Mod group, who have already supported stars such as Heaven 17 and Secret Affair.

Despite their tender years Dogtooth, which also includes bassist Craig Morrison, 14, from Larkhall and drummer/backing vocalist Robert Lang, 15, from Linwood, will play their 100th gig later this year.

John and Craig met at a Millport scooter rally in 2013. They met up once a week for rehearsals and eight months later Robert joined the band – just four days before their first gig.

Dogtooth are influenced by bands such as The Jam, The Who The Stone Roses, The Stranglers, The Clash and Oasis to name a few, playing not only their favourite covers but also a few of their own songs.

Next up for the boys is The Next Generation Concert at Barrowland on January 30. This is a free ticketed show, with any donations going to the Clutha Trust.

It is a family event celebrating the talent of young musicians in Scotland aged between 10 and 18. Tickets are available from the Clutha Bar, Glasgow of on Dogtooth’s Facebook page.

The band will also be playing the March of the Mods in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust in March.

They opened the event in Glasgow last year and also played the Aberdeen leg.

This year they are delighted to be supporting Bruce Foxton’s From The Jam at Ayr Town Hall on May 14.

They are also looking forward to their support slots with The Spitfires on May 28 in Audio, Glasgow and the Holy Pistol Club on February 26.

The boys have been given the opportunity to play the Cavern in Liverpool on May 1.
