The congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Beith sustained a new Branch President to lead them last Sunday.

The boundaries for the Branch of the Church in Beith extend to include Glengarnock, Dalry and Kilbirnie and surrounding villages.

President George Broadfoot, a resident of Irvine who has previously served as the Bishop of the Irvine congregation, was serving as a member of Paisley Stake High Council when he received the call to serve in Beith.

Married to Christine, his wife of 40 years, he will serve with his wife and look after the pastoral care of the local members for an indefinite period. He will be assisted by two counsellors Alan Lauchlan and Frazer Keir in both the administrative and spiritual aspects of the Church.

Speaking of his call to serve, President Broadfoot said: "The call to serve as the President of the Beith Branch of the Church came as a great surprise to me, but is one I was delighted to accept, and my wife and I look forward to serving with the local members in Beith. To all those without a church connection, I would invite them to come and visit our Church in Auldlea Road, Beith any Sunday at 11am. Visitors are always made very welcome."
