PUPILS and staff at St Bridget’s Primary came to school in their onesies and pyjamas for a Slumber Party as part of Fairtrade Fortnight.

The event kicked off with a special Fairtrade breakfast of delicious pancakes, handmade by pupils in the kitchens of Tesco Kilbirnie.

When the Herald spoke to Dennis Hopkins, head teacher of St Bridget’s Primary, on the day of the event, he was wearing his Santa Claus onesie.

He said: “It’s all about raising awareness of Fairtrade and encouraging everyone to do a bit more towards purchasing Fairtrade.

“It was a good morning. We were all in our onesies and PJs.

“Kids who didn’t want to wear these wore their ordinary clothes so there was no one in uniform. There were all different onesies worn – there were lots of Minions, Star Wars, Frozen and super heroes.”

The Slumber Party was organised by the school’s Fairtrade Committee, which is made up of children from P1-P7.

As part of the event, the committee got to spend time in Tesco’s kitchen the day before making the pancakes for the Fairtrade breakfast.

Mr Hopkins said: “We have been well supported by Tesco.

“The store in KIlbirnie are actually quite good with involving all the schools. They invited us down to make pancakes the day before.

“The kids got to work in Tesco’s kitchen, which was really cool. They were all over the moon and it all helped to raise awareness of Fairtrade.”
