NORTH AYRSHIRE COUNCIL plan to realign the B714 between Saltcoats and Dalry in a £2 million project to make the road safer.

The plans, which cover the stretch of road from Girthill to Yonderhouses, will include landscaping, boundary treatment, livestock underpass and drainage system.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “We appointed specialist consultants to identify the best option for improving the road and ultimately making it safer.

“We are now looking to progress this work which will see five bends being removed at one of the most dangerous stretches of the road. The length of the road improvement will be 1.4km.

“The estimated total cost of the scheme is £2 million which will be funded from the council’s approved General Services capital plan.

“These proposals are currently at the planning stage and will be considered by officers in due course.”

Dalry and West Kilbride Councillor, Robert Barr, welcomed the plans. He told the Herald: “I support the realignment of the B714 to make it a safer section of road as there have been several serious accidents in this area. I have had no objections from constituents – most support the realignment.”
