A DALRY woman has been fined after she admitted assaulting a barmaid in a pub in the town.

Jennifer Ann Proctor, who is 28, and from Kirkland Crescent, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to two charges against her after she struck a deal with prosecutors.

The court heard that Proctor was in the Black Bull Inn on January 3 and that the complainer was employed there.

There was an altercation and Proctor was asked to leave. She started to lash out with her arms and the complainer was hit on the lower lip.

The victim then attempted to usher Proctor out but she was then threatened with Proctor shouting: “F*****g get her outside.”

The barmaid returned to the area behind the bar and Proctor then approached the area and lifted empty glasses and began to throw them in various directions and the police were called.

When officers arrived, the pub was closed and the accused was traced to her home and then taken to Saltcoats Police Office.

Brian Holliman, defending, said that his client was a first offender and has three kids.

He said that she suffers from various health problems including Crohn’s Disease but Sheriff Gill interjected at this point and said: “It doesn’t stop her from drinking though, does it?”

Mr Holliman added that it wasn’t something she did regularly and she has little of no recollection of the night.

He said it started fairly innocently but the accused grossly overreacted in an unacceptable manner and it was entirely out of character.

Sheriff Jill said that she was considering a Community Payback Order but due to the fact that Proctor was a first offender, she had children and had health difficulties she would be fined.

She was fined a total of £225.
