A BEITH man has been jailed after he admitted shouting at his partner.

Kevin Stirrat, 44, of McMillan Crescent, appeared from custody at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court where the court heard that Stirrat had been in a relationship with the woman but it ended when he went to prison. Over the course of his sentence, they continued to keep in contact and his ex visited him.

The offence took place on May 9 when Stirrat returned from a hospital appointment with news that he was seriously unwell and wanted to go to his parents house to let them know. He asked his partner to go with him but she didn't want to go and he left but he returned soon afterwards.

He started shouting and swearing and said the woman was a "F*****g c*w, cheating b***h and junkie."

He left the house again and the police were later contacted and Stirrat was interviewed and said he hadn't called her names but when asked 'Why would she say this?' he said that she was cheating on him. He added that he didn't shout and swear and that he was trying to calm her down.

Paul Gallacher, defending, said that his client thoroughly regretted how he dealt with the situation and that he was ashamed of the words he used.
The plea of guilty was entered on the date that Stirrat was due to stand trial and he had been on remand since May 10.

Sheriff Vaughan said: "I've listened to what Mr Gallacher has said on your behalf and accept that it is restricted to verbal abuse but you do have a criminal record and this took place during an expired portion of a sentence."
He was sentenced to serve three months, backdated to May 10.
