FIREFIGHTERS rescued an elderly man following a kitchen blaze at a house in Dalry.

Fire appliances from Kilwinning, Dalry and Kilbirnie raced to reports of a house fire in Peden Avenue in the early hours of Sunday, July 24.

Station Manager Derek Davidson said “The call initially came in as ‘persons reported’, which indicates that someone is trapped in the building.

“On arrival the crews quickly gained access to the two storey property and commenced firefighting and search and rescue operations.

“The teams very quickly located and extinguished a small fire in the kitchen area and, very importantly, located an elderly male casualty and rescued him from the house.

“Unfortunately the gentleman suffered from slight smoke inhalation however was assessed by paramedics and did not require to be admitted to hospital.

“I must reiterate to members of the public the importance of being vigilant when it comes to cooking in the kitchen.

“Please ensure you give your full attention and that all cooker rings and ovens are switched off after use.”
