A GROUP of adults with learning disabilities have been praised after raising £800 for cancer sufferers and their families.

Service users at the Salvation Army’s George Steven Centre in Kilbirnie, this week presented a cheque to the Greig Steven Memorial Fund, which aims to build a holiday home for those affected by cancer.

Elaine Steven and her family, from Kilbirnie, set up the fund after losing her 25-year-old son Greig to cholangiocarcinoma, which is a rare form of the disease.

During a visit to the George Steven Centre on Tuesday, July 26 she thanked service users for their “fantastic” fundraising efforts.

Elaine said: “We’re so grateful to all the staff and service users at The Salvation Army centre.

“They worked hard and their efforts paid off when they held a Britain’s Got Talent-style talent show where service users were the contestants and staff were judges.

“The singing and dance acts were fantastic.

“On top of that the service users raised money by helping make the home baking at a recent coffee morning.”
