Lidl UK has confirmed that it has made a planning application to update its store in Dalry with a new bakery.

The bakery extension will add an extra 67m² to the store, with space for 32 bakery products to be available on the shop floor and it will mean it will be the second Lidl store in North Ayrshire with a bakery, after Stevenston.

Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, Gordon Rafferty commented: “We are always looking at ways to improve our existing portfolio of stores. We’ve seen incredible demand in the Dalry store so have decided to take this step to increase our bakery offering in order to enhance the shopping experience for our customers.

“This equates to a significant investment in the store”.

The supermarket, which was crowned ‘Best Supermarket 2016’ by readers of Good Houskeeping, has experienced continued growth over the years, as consumers flock to the shop to discover products ranging from quality British fruit and vegetables to premiums wines from its much coveted Wine Cellar collections.

Lidl’s success shows no signs of slowing, as the latest Kantar Worldpanel results outline its continued growth and market share high of 4.5 per cent.

The company hopes that a decision will be made on the application by October.
