A woman was left shaken after a man threatened her while trying to rob the Kilbirnie newsagents she works at.

At around 6.45am on Wednesday, August 31, a man entered Richardson’s in Holmhead and threatened the female member of staff and demanded money.

The 53-year-old woman managed to run from the store and the suspect fled empty handed.

The staff member was uninjured, however she has been left badly shaken by the incident.

The suspect is white, around 5ft 7 inches in height, with a stocky build and pale complexion. He was wearing a grey hooded top and his face was partially covered. He ran off in the direction of Kilbirnie town centre.

Detective Constable Alex Greig said: “This shop is on a main road and there may well have been people making their way to work around the time of the incident and I’m appealing to them to get in touch. Did you see the suspect hanging around outside the shop or did you see him run up towards the town centre. Please do contact us with any information you may have.”
