A BRAVE cat owner raised over £200 having her head shaved in support of North Ayrshire Cats Protection.

Agnes Downie, a Salvation Army volunteer from Kilbirnie, told the Herald she had her locks sheared after having “a silly idea” during the night.

She said: “It’s a strange story. I wakened up one morning and I looked at my cat Cfur and I thought that there are a lot of cats that aren’t being looked after. I phoned up Cats Protection and asked if I could do something to sponsor their cats. They asked what I wanted to do and I just said that I would shave my head! I get these silly ideas during the night. I thought: I’m nearly 63 so why not? Go for it! All my friends and family have been very supportive of me, although my daughter did ask me what happens if it doesn’t grow back. I said I’ll just get a wig!”

Agnes had her head shaved at Nina’s Barbers in Kilbirnie, raising £220.05 for the charity with her daring challenge. The 62-year-old handed over the cheque at Cats Protection’s Adoption Show in Eglington Park.

Agnes said: “Cats Protection need all the help they can get.”
