THE contract for the internal works to be carried out at the new Garnock Community Campus has been awarded.

SPIE UK won the £7m contract for works demonstrating SPIE’s experience in delivering projects to the education sector entails the provision of mechanical, public health and electrical installation services.

The 17,000m² Garnock Community Campus will accommodate 1,200 secondary school, 260 primary school, 45 early years students (2-18 years old) and provide new community facilities which will include a six-lane, 25m swimming pool and fitness suite.

SPIE’s diverse range of responsibilities at the site comprise mechanical and electrical works, including the installation of Low Temperature Hot Water (LTHW) heating, sanitary ware, LV switchgear, lighting and power, ventilation, fire alarms and security systems.

Reflecting its expertise with energy saving solutions, SPIE will install an innovative lighting control system to enable building managers to adjust brightness throughout the site, particularly where natural light is abundant.

The green solution is expected to play a significant role in campus energy management.

Within the catchment area of Kilbirnie, Beith and Dalry, and close to the village of Glengarnock, the Garnock Community Campus will replace the existing Garnock Academy, Glengarnock Primary School and Kilbirnie Swimming Pool.

Designed by jmarchitects, the project reflects the concept of ‘Seeing, Learning, Happening’, in which a variety of teaching zones are clustered in wings around a shared central space, maximising views of the surrounding landscape and providing enhanced natural light and ventilation throughout the building.

Will Smith, Managing Director of Multi-Technical Services Scotland at SPIE UK, comments: “The thought-process followed in creating an open and light learning environment has given all teams the confidence to utilise key elements of the build as features, for instance, with the exposed concrete, steel and services.

“All of these add to the architect’s original vision for a contemporary learning environment.”
