A MAN suffered from slight smoke inhalation following a kitchen fire in Ardrossan just before 10.30am on Thursday, November 10.

Crews from Ardrossan and Kilwinning raced to the scene in Boydston Road and located the fire in the ground floor kitchen area.

Firefighters attacked the blaze using breathing apparatus and high pressure hose reel jets, bringing the fire under control and fully extinguishing it within 15 minutes of arrival.

Station Manager Derek Davidson said: “This incident was one of several kitchen fires which occurred across Ayrshire over the past few days.

“On this occasion an adult male received assessment and appropriate treatment for slight smoke inhalation but the outcome could have been a whole lot worse if our crews hadn’t dealt with the incident quickly and professionally.”

He added “The majority of kitchen fires are as a result of distraction and people not paying full attention while cooking.

“Fire only takes seconds to take hold and spread so I would urge members of the public not to leave the kitchen for any reason and leave cookers unattended while making food.

“The first line of defence for any household is to have working smoke detection.”
