THE pupils, staff and volunteers of St Bridget’s Primary are delighted to have been awarded the Gold School Sport Award by SportScotland.

It has taken a lot of hard work and dedication from all involved over a number of years and without doubt sport has had a positive impact on the school.

Last year there were a large number of lunchtime and after school sports clubs including football, basketball, rugby, hockey, table tennis, archery, dance and dodgeball. Clubs were attended by 76 per cent of pupils in the school.

This year the school have added handball and parkour to their list of clubs.

Headteacher Dennis Hopkins said: “As a school community we love participating in festivals and competitions.

“We attended football, basketball, table tennis, athletics and hockey festivals and three-quarters of all pupils were able to participate.

“The staff’s quality teaching and learning in core PE was recognised through a case study by SportScotland.

“We had many other exciting sporting opportunities including an awesome Health Week and a competition to design school sports badges. We are also lucky to have our fabulous pupil PE Champions who help pupils in class and give up their own time to run lunchtime clubs.

“Finally we would like to thank all of our volunteers - Tommy, Maggie, Lauren, Emma, Eve, Sean and Stephen - staff members, pupils and our super Active School co-ordinator, Ewan Jamieson, for helping us to win Gold.”
