STAFF at Tesco Kilbirnie have pledged to become the first dementia friendly store in Ayrshire by undergoing training from North Ayrshire Council’s Health and Social Care Partnership.
The store has also donated £4,000 to the council’s Housing Services Dementia Friendly Design Demonstrator Project,.
Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet member for Place, thanked Tesco for “their generous contribution” towards the Dementia Demonstrator show home in Kilbirnie’s Montgomery Court.
He said: “The show home forms part of a fantastic £4.8million development at Montgomery Court, designed to specifically meet the needs of the older population in North Ayrshire.
“With support from Tesco, we have been able to show how small adjustments within the home can make a huge difference to those living with dementia and their families.”
Andrew Mexson, store manager at Tesco Kilbirnie, said that the store team were “delighted” to be supporting “an amazing project” and that they hoped the donation would help make the shop more dementia friendly. He also thanked Anam Cara for providing training.
