POLICE in North Ayrshire finished LGBT History Month by attending a special event at the Walker Memorial Hall in Kilbirnie.

Last Saturday, February 25, PC Scott Murray, who is the Safer Communities and LGBT Liaison Officer for North Ayrshire, attended the Trans Tea Party Event at the Walker Memorial Hall in Kilbirnie.

The event organised by the North Ayrshire Council Connected Communities, Youth Participation and Empowerment Team, is the culmination of daily tweets throughout February in support of LGBT History Month. The tweets have offered advice on the support available at both a local and national level and provided information on the local services within Ayrshire for people throughout the LGBT Community.

LGBT History Month takes place in Scotland every February. It is an opportunity to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender lives and culture, and to recognise the significant contribution LGBT people have made to our country and the world at large.

Various organisations were present at the event including North Ayrshire Youth Services, LGBT Youth Scotland, Transgender Alliance Scotland and the Terrence Higgins Trust. Those who attended participated in conversation cafés, LGBT information stalls, glitter make up and had the opportunity to design their own cupcakes.

PC Scott Murray, commented: “Today’s event was a great success and was very well attended by both people and supporters from the LGBT community throughout Ayrshire.

“I would like to thank North Ayrshire Youth Services for inviting me along as I have thoroughly enjoyed speaking with all who attended.”
