MOTOR Neurone Disease will be on the minds of one Ayrshire family as they cycle the perilous journey from John O’ Groats to Gretna.
Laura and Steve Bain, who live in Dalry along with three friends will be doing the 400-mile trip the length of the country starting on April 3.
The couple’s nine-year-old daughter Evie will join them on safer parts of the journey and her goal is to cycle between 50 and 100 miles.
Joining the family in the ambitious fête is fellow Dalry man Graeme Macfarlane, David Grant from Troon and Laura Wells from Glasgow.
Laura said: “We feel like we want to challenge ourselves more this time.”
Steve said: “We chose that charity because a few of our close friends have been struck down with the disease and we wanted to raise money to fight it.
“It’s going to be a tough trip, we go to John O’ Groats a week on Sunday and we are aiming to do 100 miles on the first day, and 60-100 miles each day subsequently after it.”
Laura said: “Evie will be joining us on certain routes, she’ll be following us with my mum and dad.”
A total of £5,563.79 has already been raised for MND Scotland but their target is around £7,500 or more so if you want to donate go to: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/CycleScotlandForMND
