A TEAM of cyclists from across Ayrshire have raised around £9000 for MND Scotland.

Laura and Steve Bain, who live in Dalry along with three friends cycled the perilous journey from John O’ Groats to Gretna over the April holidays.

Laura and Steve, along with fellow Dalry man Graeme Macfarlane, David Grant from Troon and Laura Wells from Glasgow completed the 400-mile trip in 5 and a half days.

The couple’s nine-year-old daughter Evie joined them on some of the safer parts of the journey and managed to achieve her goal of 50 miles.

Laura said: “The Monday morning, we left at 9.30am and it was by far the toughest part of the journey.

“The headwinds and hills at John O’Groats were unlike anything I’d ever seen before.

“The Tuesday and Wednesday went really well and we were all aiming to get to Balloch on the Thursday.

“We had family and friends meeting us there - and we got to sleep in pods for a night which was a big difference to camping.

“Friday was really difficult because it was city cycling, and trying to get through Glasgow City Centre was a challenge.

“When we got through it we were getting to Gretna too quickly, so we had to pull over for 40 minutes so people could be there at the end line waiting for us.

“I really would like to thank everyone who supported us and who donated to MND.”

The team’s Just Giving page is sitting at £8,275 but Laura has still got £700 to add to it, bringing the total to a whopping £8975.
