A BEITH schoolgirl has been offered the chance to perform in a Hollywood competition referred to as “the Olympics of performing arts”.

Talented Rachel Montgomery won a place representing Team GB in the World Championships of Performing Arts following a successful audition.

Rachel trains at the McCallum School of Music in Paisley and is well known in the Beith community for her singing.

The 13-year-old Garnock Campus pupil has been busy trying to raise funds to make her Hollywood dream a reality.

Rachel's mum Carol McGlone said: “We're all very proud of her. It's a big achievement for her.

“She's representing Scotland with Team GB and it's the first time Scotland's been involved.

“The championships are singing, acting, and dancing. Rachel's in four different categories for vocals and she's acting in one category.

“Rachel's been singing for about three years, she was always singing as wee girl.

“Her papa played in a local band for years as a guitarist.”

So far, Rachel has managed to raise an impressive £1,400 by herself from busking in the local area.

A recent fundraiser held in her honour at Barrmill Community Centre raised £570 and local groups and individuals have also donated.

Carol added: “She's had a lot of support. We would like to thank everyone who has supported Rachel.”

Rachel and her family wished to thank the following for their support: Beith Christian Aid, Jolly Beggars, Barrmill Bowling Club, Barrmill One O'clock Gang, Barrmill Community Association, Donald and Kathleen Reid, McCallum School of Music, Orr Park Neighbourhood Watch, Anthea Dickson and North Ayrshire Council (Creativity Fund and Ayrshire Educational Trust), the local Tesco, and the local Co-op.
