A MAN who drunkenly shouted threats in his ex-girlfriend’s Kilbirnie garden and smashed her window has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.

Jim Porter, of Kilbirnie’s School Wynd, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week and pled guilty to two charges.

The court heard that at around 3.30pm on May 25, the woman was within her upstairs flat when Porter turned up intoxicated and went into the garden. He shouted that she was a “fat b******” and “black b******” then he picked up an object from her garden and smashed the back window. Porter then started sending text messages asking for money. The woman was alarmed and contacted the police.

Porter presented himself at Kilbirnie Police Officer on July 6 in relation to the matter and made admissions that he was shouting and swearing.

Defending Porter, solicitor Simon Brown said: “Mr Porter accepts that he had gone out and got drunk. He has no recollection but he understands he had money in the house that he wanted. The next day when he was sober they both agreed that it should be reported to the police. He’s pled guilty at the first opportunity. He accepts he needs pay for the damage.”

Sheriff Alistair Watson told Porter: “This is pretty disgraceful behaviour and your record does you no credit. The only saving grace for you is that you haven’t been in trouble for a while. This had better be a one-off behaviour.”

Sheriff Watson ordered Porter to carry out 70 hours of unpaid work as “a direct alternative to custody”.

He added: “This 70 hours of unpaid work you have three months to do. You fail to do that, I will take you into custody.”
