A WOMAN who assaulted another woman in a Kilbirnie pub has been fined £100 and ordered to pay £200 compensation.

Cheryl Asbury, of Kilbirnie’s Milton Quadrant, pled guilty to one charge at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.

The court heard that Asbury was at Ramages Bar on July 23 at around 11.50pm. Witnesses were sitting at a table next to the bar when Asbury approached and assaulted the complainer. She struck her to the face and was pulling at her hair. Bar staff contacted police. Asbury had to be restrained by patrons of the pub on the floor. When officers arrived, they assisted Asbury to her feet, at which point she lunged at the woman again and grabbed her by the hair.

Asbury’s solicitor Peter Murray said: “She has a very limited record. There is one conviction for not having a TV licence. She is almost a first offender at the age of 45. She’s absolutely humiliated by her conduct and her behaviour towards the victim.

“She remembers being in the pub with another couple. This other couple appears to have had a spat. It is Miss Asbury’s position that the complainer got involved. There is thereafter a complete overreaction from Cheryl Asbury.

“She is filled with regret and is extremely anxious about what might happen to her today. She seen red. She’s pled guilty at the earliest opportunity.”

Sheriff Craig Harris said: “Miss Asbury, you have a very limited experience with the criminal justice system with one very minor matter on your record. Your conduct the night in question was quite unacceptable. I am willing to draw a line under this today with a financial penalty.”
