POLICE are appealing for information after a man was the victim of a hit and run last night (Wednesday).

Detectives at Saltcoats are continuing enquiries and appealing for witnesses after a 29-year-old man was seriously injured in Dalry on Wednesday night.

Around 9.40pm on Wednesday, September 20, a 29-year-old man was walking on a footpath on Wingate Avenue in Dalry when he was deliberately driven at, then struck by a small red car. The car involved then drove off at speed heading towards St Margarets Avenue.

The injured pedestrian was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. Hospital staff describe his condition as serious.

Detective Sergeant Ross Black of Saltcoats Police Office said: “Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident and to trace the vehicle involved and its driver.

“Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and I would ask anyone who was in the area of Wingate Avenue who witnessed this incident to contact us.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen a red vehicle being driven at speed in Dalry on Wednesday night to come forward, as they may have information that will assist our enquiry.
