DURING the summer Tesco in Kilbirnie have been running a raffle to give away a brand new car.

The raffle, ran in connection with the Garnock Valley Pipes and Drums to raise funds for the group saw over six thousand tickets being sold for the New Ford Fiesta and the lucky winner was chosen by local councillor Anthea Dickson who is also the treasurer for the Group.

The winner, Mary Fenton from Northfield Avenue in Ayr, is pictured with the Store manager Andrew Mexson, Cllr Anthea Dickson and Compton McGill from the local Ford dealership Garnock Valley Ford

Mary was delighted with the prize as she normally never wins any competition she has entered before she was shocked and stunned when she received the call from Store manager Andrew.

Andrew said: “It’s a great privilege to have been part of what was a fantastic promotion locally that captured the imagination of everybody and spread the word about the Garnock Valley Pipes and drums initiative.

“Funds raised from the car raffle will go towards purchasing new instruments for some of the 80 children already involved in the project which is a fantastic leap forward at the end of its first year.

“It was great to link up with local business Garnock Valley Ford and Compton has been a fantastic support throughout. I don’t think Mary quite believed she had won when I first phoned her a couple of weeks ago I made sure she was sitting down before I told her the good news.

“I wish her and her family many happy motoring miles in their new car.”
